Default Skill Bar Priorities?

I've been reviewing some of the Hero Build/ Hero Behavior threads; but have not stumbled on to the answer to my own simple question.

Does the order skills appear on the Tool bar affect their priority to the AI?
Either in a 1-8 or First 4/2nd for sort of way?

Nowadays, people say no. However, I still have the habit of placing skills that I want prioritized from left to right on their bars. I figure it wouldn't hurt.

I would also say no. Only proof I have seen is someone saying they did a test with 3 attunements + Elemental Attunement and they said no matter the order of the skills they will use the Elite Attunement first and then at random use the others.

Not tested it myself though.

You should prioritise them from right to left, it wouldn't hurt!

But no, I haven't seen any proof that it matters.

No because heroes cast skills based on conditions being met, but I know A LOT of players (alliance members posting bars) try to prioritize skills on their bar anyway. I do it too lol, no downside to it

Arranging the bar correctly for easy access to skill slots that you have bound to a key is a good idea though.

Thanks for all the responses,
The Attunement hint will certainly be helpful; I'm sure I read else where the AI favors
15-10-5 countdown too; will use a 15 if it can where a 5 might do? Anyhow lots of time to experiment with builds soon; my R/Elm (pictured) will qualify for Mercenary in a day or two now. Yea! BB

I like to put the Fall Back and Incoming skills on the far left of my hero bars so I can click them on recharge

I just tested to make sure: Placed two sets of clone skills on the bar -- Shadow Strike/Lifebane Strike and Desecrate Enchants/Defile Enchants -- then went an attacked a practice dummy. Results: The hero used the skills in each pair in random order.

So, the only advantage to ordering skills on the bar is getting some of them over to slots 1-3 where you can hotkey them.

You're confusing hero skills with flags. You can bind all 8 skill slots to keys as long as that hero is one of the first three in your team (unless that's what you meant by 'slot', but whatever - point is there still isn't an AI reason to order skills in a certain way).

Lol, that has nothing to do with priority according to placement though. Thats elite attunement over other attunements which makes perfect sense. The AI is smart enough to make that kind of decisions.

Another question is whether say discord heroes with deathly swarm, will cast deathly swarm more if it's placed in slot 1 instead of 2, or discord more if it's placed in slot 1 in stead of 2.

A proper test would need to have skills of equal importance in the same situation. That the AI recognizes in the same way.

Maybe something like ranger spirits could do the trick or rearranging ritualist spirits. To see if it summonins say winnowing faster then natures renewal if you switch slots or something

Heroes cast skills from left to right if they would all have the same priority. E.g. attunements and aura of resto when you enter a new area. It matters very little though since they will recast when it runs out and thus they won't cover properly eventually.
I've noticed some spirit priority but they seem to use them at random too and when they got everything up when a spirit dies they will recast the spirit that just died.
As for plain damage it seems to be rather random. I run e-surge usually and I notice they always start of with e-surge and then natural signet, but mistrust they use as the AI sees fit.
If you place deaths charge on an melee on 7 it will still use it as if it's on 1, at the start of the battle (and then whenever it's recharged and you call something even if it's next to him)
In short, order gets outclassed by AI priorities like maintaining enchantments, keep spirits up as much as possible and not covering eachothers hexes.

100% regardless of skill oder they use the Elite first, now, if you keep reading, you will see that the other enchantments are used at random regardless of skill bar position after that.

Did I explain it enough now?
